Safer Internet Forum 2008

September 25-26 2008, Luxembourg

The European Commission is organising the Safer Internet Forum 2008 in Luxembourg on September 25-26.

The purpose of the Safer Internet Forum is to bring together stakeholders such as NGOs, governments, researchers, industry representatives, including Internet Service Providers, mobile network operators, social networking sites and software developers, to discuss issues relating to the safety of children using the Internet and new communication technologies and to contribute to improving common understanding of these issues at a European level.

This year's forum will consist of the following expert panels:

September 25:
- Online Social Networking and children
- Age verification

September 26:
- What do we know about Children's Use of Online Technologies?
- Media Rating – towards pan-European cross media rating and classification schemes

The Forum is open to all interested. Participants are kindly requested to sign up for either one or for both days. The deadline for registration is 18/09/2008.

The meeting location: Room M6, Jean Monnet Building, Rue Alcide de Gasperi, Kirchberg,  Luxembourg.

In order to get input from all relevant stakeholders so as to prepare the discussions at the Safer Internet Forum, the European Commission launched a public consultation in June 2008. The deadline for contributions from those interested is 31 July 2008:
