Protecting Children on the Internet
Protecting children on the internet is no more difficult than protecting them in a school setting. We've built our own website for our students and it was successful enough to open further to other private schools of the same mindset to protect students while teaching them about online technologies, while online. |
We believe it's a reproducible model, regardless of religion, because it is based on established relationships as much as security technology.
Memberships here are extended only to those accountable relationships within christian schools, churches, or other ministries. All membership requests must include references. Both the individual and the references are checked; and only real names are used on the site. This is the only social networking website that's safe based on confirmed identities before the accounts are created and accountability afterwards.
In a school setting both teacher and student identities are confirmed and individuals protected to the best of the ability of the educational system. In real life, a teacher must have an identity confirmed, fingerprints on record with the local law enforcement, a degree, and certification.
Regarding the students, their identities must be confirmed through family and medical records and they can have reasonable expectations of safety from inappropriate environmental issues such as bullying or predation from peers or adults.
DailyChristianLife.org provides similar protection for today's youth on the internet. Once identities are confirmed the use of parental permission is mandated when age appropriate. Only DailyChristianLife.org administration can create accounts. Real names are used on site to avoid potential issues of the use of pseudonyms. Most user created material is approved before posting. Other user created material is inspected on a regular basis to ensure appropriateness. And no information is posted to a public location for viewing or misuse.
Knowing who your potential members are before they become members and locking down the site will inhibit the growth of the site, but at least that growth will be healthy for the members and certainly less problematic in the long run for the site owners.
