Slovakia
Project start - end date (duration) 01/08/2007 - 30/04/2009
The Slovak node for internet safety awareness and Helpline is coordinated by the eSlovensko NGO. The official partners of the Project are the Slovak Council of UNICEF, who is gong to run the Helpline and the Slovak Ministry of Interior who will implement our findings into national legislation. From August to October 2007 we are putting together the project team and we are talking to other potential partners from the commercial, public and non governmental spheres. At the same time we are drafting a preliminary plan of actions which we will take to raise awareness amongst children, teenagers, parents and teachers about the safer use of the Internet. Together with our partners we will use our position as national awareness node to coordinate a strong, consistent and up-to-date safety message and ensure that it reaches all relevant target groups. |
Our Awareness node campaign – Klikaj zodpovedne(Click Responsibly) – aims to raise awareness about internet safety and to promote dialogue between children and adults. We will stress the benefits of the internet and online media, as well as the importance of being a responsible and critical media user. We base our awareness message on facts and experience and have chosen to put the issue of safer internet use into a broader context of children’s everyday life.
eSlovensko in cooperation with the Slovak Council of UNICEF will supports children in distress and will act as a link between children, adults and the community. Most of the UNICEF support services are based on volunteer work and its financial support comes from corporate and individual donors, and to a small extent from governmental grants.
Since we have no previous experience in safer internet projects with INSAFE, we are learning from other, more experienced national nodes and our mentor for planning, management and implementation of planed actions is the Austrian Awareness Node. We learned a considerable amount at the Cyprus INSAFE/CYBERETHICS event in September 2007, which helped us to steer our plan of actions in the right direction.
Consequently, during the remaining period of 2007 and through out the duration of the project we set forth the following general objectives of the project:
- Media campaign reaching 1.5 million people of these shall be 0.5 million children and teenagers.
- Direct campaign through 50 trained trainers for all targeted groups. Educational events for approximately 50 000 children.
The specific objectives of our plan of actions include the following activities:
- We plan to create an official Advisory Board of experts from all relevant commercial, public and NGO institutions before the end of 2007
- In January 2008 we will officially launch the Awareness Node web site, www.zodpovedne.sk.
- In February 2008 we will officially launch with the Slovak Council of UNICEF the Safer Internet helpline on 0800-500 500, www.pomoc.sk. The Helpline will include phone and Internet based service for chidren and teenagers free of charge.
- The expert staff of eSlovensko will educate and train 20 Helpline operators on how to protect children and minors from harmful effects of media content and Internet use
- The launch of the Helpline will take place during the National Safer Internet Day.
- We plan to run before the National Safer Internet Day the Slovak version of a successful TV spot: “Where is Klaus?” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zihF2UdCbKc)
- Also before this event we will publish articles in relevant periodicals in Slovakia and on our web site
- Our printed materials including information brochures, educational materials for teachers and parents, press kits, manuals, etc… will be distributed to all target groups continuously through the duration of the project.
- Brochures on Safer Use of the Internet will be distributed in most elementary and high school textbooks in 2008 and 2009.
- Flyers will be distributed.
- Articles will be published in 2007, 2008 and 2009 in all relevant periodicals
- Discussions of the subject are planned on public radio
- Eight workshops in cities of the eight regions of the Slovak Republic will take place in 2008 and 2009
- Training of 50 experts on Safer Use of the Internet. These experts will be distributed evenly in all eight regions of Slovakia. Consequently, all trained volunteers will gain experience in work with children and young people and will have to pass the eSlovensko training program.
- Best Practice presentations will be arranged at the European Safer Internet Days and other events
- The Slovak Safer Internet Days are planned in February 2008 and 2009
- Interactive www page of the project www.zodpovedne.sk will be gradually upgraded with all relevant information, updates, advise, manuals, interactive games, competitions, etc…
- The most important planed mass media activity of the project is the production of an entertaining, educational, interactive TV special program focusing on the eight most problematic areas of the safer use of the Internet. These areas are the following: Junk mail and spam, computer viruses, data protection, electronic crime, chat, gambling and on line games, on line dating, mobile phones and mobile communication. The parts of the TV special constitute the main media campaign and these will run on TV upon the agreement with TV company. The specific details of this media campaign are now under discussion with our partners and with the yet unofficial members of our advisory board.
