National Node: Internet Segura
Internet Segura project aims to develop in Portugal a culture of awareness and social contribution to report illegal contents in the Internet, in order to minimize as far as possible the negative aspects of the generalization of Internet usage. The awareness node educates and informs people how to protect themselves from the dangers of the Internet, as a preventive and awareness action, and the hotline is a resource for citizens to report illegal or harmful contents. The project started on the last 1st of January 2007 and will last until 30th of June 2009.
In order to fulfill the Internet Segura project objectives, a consortium was assembled keeping in mind that, in itself, it would be a decisive asset for the project's success. The consortium is coordinated by UMIC - Knowledge Society Agency - and also includes DGIDC/CRIE – the Directorate-General for Innovation and Curricular Development Task Force of the Ministry of Education, FCCN – Foundation for National Scientific Computing - and MICROSOFT Portugal.

The project had its public presentation on the 5th of July 2007, with the presentation of the project website – www.internetsegura.pt -, the Portuguese hotline – linhaalerta.internetsegura.pt - and with the distribution of an Internet Safety Guide oriented to the general public, distributed through a Portuguese reference newspaper (around 85.000 copies) on the 27th of June 2007.
