The node's core task is to increase public knowledge on the potential of electronic communication technologies, and the potential dangers associated with them. This will be done by utilising already existing resources, human and institutional, in addition to a vast body of recent research data. The node will work to be a national resource centre for all efforts on safe use of digital communications technologies.

In striving for our goals as a national node, we will play an active role in reaching public schools and educational institutions, so we can inform and enlighten both our educators and students in a safe way in their day to day use of, and acquaintance with new and ever-changing media. We aim for a wide and intelligent use of the internet and mobile technology, so that children will be able to show healthy criticism and awareness regarding both use and contents of the World Wide Web.

We will continue researching – and focus on the group of children not yet in school (6 years and younger) – in an effort to try to map a picture of what kind of knowledge these youngsters have in regard to new technology and the internet when they start school. This will again be a tool for us in better to reach both the children, their parents and their educators when introducing the internet as a tool both at home and at school - and a tool not only meant for work, but also for fun, communicating and as a source of increased linguistic and personal skills. By drawing this map, we hope to unravel and avoid risks for children, and help them be empowered users of new media.
