Australia

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) is responsible for the regulation of broadcasting, the internet, radiocommunications and telecommunications.
ACMA’s responsibilities include:
  • promoting self-regulation and competition in the communications industry, while protecting consumers and other users
  • fostering an environment in which electronic media respect community standards and respond to audience and user needs
  • managing access to the radiofrequency spectrum
  • representing Australia’s communications interests internationally.

ACMA manages a national cybersafety education program which includes:
  • researching current trends in cybersafety
  • undertaking targeted information and awareness-raising campaigns and activities
  • developing cybersafety education materials for use in schools.

ACMA’s cybersafety activities aim to give children, and their parents and carers, sound advice on how best to manage online risks, so their experiences are safe and positive.

More information about cybersafety is available on the NetAlert and Cybersmart Kids websites.
