Safer Internet Day 2007 Competition Award Ceremony

Brussels, Belgium, 11 June 2007


On 23 October 2006, the Safer Internet Day 2007 Competition was launched. Schools from Europe and all over the world were invited to work in pairs and create awareness messages around the themes of e-privacy, netiquette and the power of image.
On 6 February 2007, Commissioner Viviane Reding announced the winners of the Competition organised on the occasion of the 4th edition of Safer Internet Day. The 4 prizes are sponsored by Vodafone and UPC for the respective categories of e-privacy, netiquette, power of image and innovation:

  • Award for e-Privacy: Poland: Zespol Szkol Handlowo-Ekonomicznych w Bialymstoku and Bulgaria: PGGPT "Nikola Vaptsarov". Project title: “Modern communication tools - for and against our privacy”

  • Award for Netiquette: Greece: Athens College and the Czech Republic: ZS TGM Mnichovice. Project title: "e-values"

  • Award for Power of Images: Poland: Gimnazjum Nr 6 w Żorach and Greece: Primary school of Panagia Thassos. Project title: "The picture as the vehicle of bad and good news"

  • Award for Innovation: United Kingdom: Semley Primary School and the United States: Athens-Chilesburg Elementary School. Project title: "The Power of Image"

    On 11 June 2007 at 18.30, an award ceremony is taking place in the 15th century Gothic Room of the Brussels Townhall, in the historical center of the city. Winning schools will be recompensed and Insafe will reaffirm its support to schools all around Europe and the world by developing media literacy and internet safety awareness among young citizens.

    Present at the award ceremony will be the representatives of the winning schools, the European Commission, the Insafe network of awareness nodes, eTwinning National Support Services and national Belgian authorities.
