Santa is coming... with robots and videogames!

Finally! The robot has made his way into the 21st century. Not to give a helping
hand in the kitchen, however, but as a toy for the little ones. As a runner-up for videogames they are very sought after in the Christmas period. Santa knits
his brows...

In the European Union parents yearly spend on average 150 € (without videogames) on toys and 180 € in the EU-15. So new member states spend in average less than EU-15. According to the most recent figures, the UK is the absolute leader with regard to toy consumption (24% of the European market), followed by France (19.6%), Germany (17%), Italy (7.9%) and Spain (6.5%). All together, these countries represent 75 % of all toy expenses in EU-25. Belgium represents 2.4%.

According to a survey conducted by CRIOC, Belgian parents spend 282 euro a year on toys. Leaving out videogames this brings us to a mere 178 euro. Consequently, with a market share of 37%, videogames remain the most popular toy for children. New this year is the arrival of interactive robots. They can speak, sing, follow orders and even play bowling. Much to the liking of our youngsters, so figures show...
