i-SAFE brings internet safety education to EU schools

A “digital divide” exists between what students, their teachers, and parents know about computers, technology and the internet. Educating all of them bridges the digital divide. i-SAFE now provides world-class internet safety education to EU schools.

Article i-SAFE programs directly align with universally considered standards in educational technology, current best practices, and a variety of international ICT initiatives. The education and empowerment implementation strategy provides the added benefit of facilitating meaningful teaching and learning, rather than isolated information. i-SAFE is the third associate node of the Insafe network outside the EU.

The i-SAFE International Education Program is available to EU member nodes through online professional-development training. This training is afforded to all educators worldwide regardless of geographic barriers by logging onto http://international.isafe.org . By watching the extraordinary i-LEARN International training modules, teachers stay a step ahead of their students.

The i-LEARN International video modules provide educators the knowledge to teach the core topics important to promoting safe and responsible internet use —Child Safety, Online Behavior, Protecting Personal Information, and Computer Security — preparing them for lessons ranging from online predator awareness to plagiarism; identity theft, bullying and more.

Obtain a sample of the i-SAFE International Safety and Security Curriculum at http://international.isafe.org. The 30 introductory lessons provide a solid foundation on teaching topics that apply universally to students online. These lessons integrate with the cyber safety initiatives already in progress by EU countries.

The next step is to build upon this foundation through the creation of a comprehensive program implementation strategy. i-SAFE’s youth empowerment activities promote students’ critical thinking, ensuring a high rate of information retention. i-SAFE’s parent and community outreach programs virally spread internet safety education to homes, neighborhoods, and communities. And, i-SAFE’s exclusive assessments provide metrics to schools on the behavioral attitudes of their students as it relates to their online activities.

As an associated node of the Insafe network, i-SAFE is a “thought leader” in the worldwide effort to extend beyond internet safety awareness, and provide education and empowerment to your students in today’s global economy. Together we can make a difference.
