Portugal calls for a better and safer internet

The Portuguese national node SeguraNet is holding a second meeting for stakeholders on 11 November 2005. The meeting, in a seminar format, will focus on stakeholders’ contributions on the theme: "More Internet, Better Internet, Safer Internet - without harmful and illegal content."

There will be a brief description of the development of SeguraNet and the presentation of some products.  These include a new website, videos and graphic materials, such as posters, leaflets, postcards, and a manual for teachers.

A special presentation on Children and the Internet, a sociological approach, will be made by a professor of the University of Minho, followed by shorter presentations:

• ENISA’s perspective on safety, by the Portuguese representative (FCCN)
• Computer Games classification by the Board of Film Classification
• Project MiudosSegurosNa.Net, by a parent that created a site for parents concerned with internet safety
• “Criminal law and illegal content on the internet,” by the District Attorney
• “In defence of copyright: fighting the underground economy,” by the Inspector for Cultural Activities
• Microsoft’s Safety Programme

These interventions will be the source for debate among the participants invited that include a wide range of public institutions and private companies.  The participants include representatives from ministries, teacher associations, ISPs, the police and the Board of Film Classification, among many others.
