klicksafe leads the way through the media jungle
klicksafe is planning to arrange courses for multipliers throughout Germany in cooperation with the German Child Protection Agency. The courses will be entitled "Ways through the media jungle – safe conduit of children and teenagers through multimedia". |
Since November 2007 klicksafe has been arranging seminars for parenting course instructors, in which they are trained in media literacy and dissemination to families. Through its cooperation with the German Child Protection Agency in Bavaria klicksafe has trained about 35 people in the Länder so far. During the four days of the programme the parenting course instructors receive information about digital technology. klicksafe aims to prepare them to work with parents and deal with the problems they face with media use.
Television, internet, pc-games and mobiles are used every day by children and teenagers. More and more parents are confronted with the intensity of this use by their children. Parents need professional help to guide their children in the secure use of multimedia and need to know which opportunities and challenges arise in this area.
Next year it is intended to expand this concept at a federal level. Between December 2008 and February 2009 there will be a course of instruction for trainers for no more than 14 participants. The idea is to train trainers in media literacy following their participation in previous courses. They can then serve as multipliers throughout the country.
Based on this training, parenting course instructors can be trained by the multipliers. Parenting courses focused on media literacy will take place all over Germany. The newly qualified trainers serve as multipliers for their own region; they will be expected to run one or two courses a year. If two multipliers teach together, it is likely that between 7 and 14 training courses for instructors will take place in 2009. Assuming the number of 14 participants per course, 80-160 parenting course instructors will be trained and authorised to give courses for parents.
More training courses will be provided, depending on needs and this will depend on the National Associations and how many multipliers they want to have trained.
