Grooming case lecture for internet safety ambassadors

As part of its safer internet campaign, the Swedish Media Council has established a network of about 160 ambassadors who help it meet the increasing demand for information on internet safety for children and young people on a regional level.

The network of ambassadors mainly consists of teachers and ICT educators who have been recruited at Council seminars and other events. Once a year, network members are invited to Stockholm for training, and in November the third annual network training meeting will take place.

One of the highlights of the programme is a lecture on grooming by Katia Wagner whose book Alexandramannen - about a major grooming case in Sweden - was published earlier this year. A presentation of the Swedish Helpline BRIS’ children and IT-study, and workshops on media literacy and gender perspectives are also scheduled. In addition to lectures and workshops, the participants will have many opportunities to meet and network within the group.

Throughout the year, the Swedish Media Council continuously updates the safer internet ambassadors on the Council’s work and issues regarding children’s media use. It also provides them with relevant new information material. In this way, the network also functions as a reference group which the Media Council can consult for feedback on ongoing activities and future plans and ideas.
