Launch of online safer internet game in the Netherlands

On 25 September 2006, the Dutch awareness node presented an online safer internet game, developed within the Digibewust (digitally aware) campaign. The game is targeted to children and teens aged from 8 to 11 and from 12 to 14 respectively.

Children are asked to help a billionaire who has put all his belongings in a safe and torn the code in pieces that he then distributed to his neighbours. The neighbours of course, don’t want to give him back the code. Acting as online detectives, children need to visit all the residents of the building to retrieve the code.

They can get their piece of code by executing assignments and games. Some games are just recreational, while others test their skills in terms of using search engines properly, downloading music and films, avoiding spam and viruses and knowing how to act on the internet.

Children can win Xboxes, a free day at the cinema for the whole school class, mobile phones, digital cameras, iPods, DVD’s, computer games etc. The game is supported by several commercial, media and governmental partners.
