Polish Radio BIS Science Picnic
On 23 June 2006, the 10th anniversary of Polish Radio BIS science picnic was celebrated in Warsaw. |
The science picnic had the motto “The world in ten years’ time” and was very futuristic. What was special with it was that visitors could touch everything and run many experiments themselves. There were interesting attractions for everyone: funny games, fascinating experiments and presentations, serious discussions with scientists and discoverers. The Polish FDN–NASK awareness consortium took part in the event in order to promote safer internet use.
The New Market Square in Warsaw where the picnic stands were installed was visited by a large number of people. At the stand of the Polish node, visitors had the opportunity to listen to a very popular song from the Sieciaki.pl website that was on the summer hit-list. They could also get information about the objectives of the Sieciaki.pl project. Surprisingly enough, almost every elementary or grammar-school student knew the project. Parents were mostly interested in the leaflets containing ten internet safety tips for parents.
The Polish Radio BIS science picnic is the biggest science happening in Europe, visited by about 100,000 people every year. More and more institutions participate in the event. This year there were 150 of them, not only from Poland but also from other countries such as Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Ecuador, Spain, Japan, Lithuania, Germany, Slovakia, the United States, the United Kingdom and Hungary.
