www.web4me.be: "first aid" for young internauts!

A website created for young internauts gives answers to questions related to safer internet use.

Youngsters have integrated internet into their daily lives, but they don't always know who to turn to in case of problems. Today the website www.web4me.be answers all their questions with regard to shocking images, online approaches by sects, racism and cyberhate, commercial fraud and other reprehensible activities. Moreover, web4me offers solutions for all kinds of technical problems.

The website www.web4me.be is initiated by the www.saferinternet.be platform. It was officially launched on 31 May 2006, on the occasion of the colloquium "Young people on the internet: virtual or real danger?" in Brussels. In August and September a media campaign was set up to invite as many internet users as possible to come and visit the website.

In addition to a number of press releases, a webadvertising campaign was initiated, part of which consisted of a "trap with an educational wink". So-called commercial banners (proposing youngsters a free cell-phone subscription) were imitated in order to "trap" as many youngsters as possible. Afterwards, they were notified that they had been lured into a trap in order to be confronted with the danger of leaving personal data on commercial websites. In the end they were automatically directed to www.web4me.be. Mailings and a peer-to-peer action were also set up to invite young internet users to come and visit the website.
