ChatCheck badge launched in Denmark
This May, a ChatCheck badge was launched in Denmark to mark Danish chat communities for children and young people as "safer".
The ChatCheck badge may be used by the online communities that comply with a code of conduct consisting of a number of guidelines. In specific, service providers must:
provide a 24 hour technical chat surveillance
store and save chat messages, images and profile information for up to one year
make a “reporting button”available for young people to report other users in case of suspected criminal or unethical behaviour
offer a “black-listing” function so that young users can block unwanted communication from other users
The ChatCheck system is a result of the cooperation between stakeholders of the internet industry and expert organisations such as The Media Council for Children and Young People and Save the Children Denmark. The ChatCheck codex is directed at providers of chat services and communities for children and young people under 18 years of age.
