NetAlert continued with the National Libraries Project sponsoring Library and Information Week 2006 in Australia.
First launched in the 2005, the National Libraries Project aims to assist public libraries in Australia with internet safety. Materials have been created such as a Librarian’s Guide to Internet Safety which helps librarians understand the issues and risks and then provides a range of strategies for them to implement.
Along with the guide, a number of resources to use within the library are available. These remind people accessing the internet from within the library about some of the key issues they need to remember in order to stay safe.
All materials have previously been distributed to public libraries throughout Australia.
Library and Information Week 2006 was organised by ALIA – the Australian Library Information Association. NetAlert is a major sponsor of the event and supports ALIA in this week. Library and Information Week 2006 ran from 22 – 28 May 2006.
The resources and library web portal can be found online at www.netalert.net.au/library. More information about Information and Library Week 2006 can be found at www.alia.org.au/advocacy/liw/
