Egyptian contributions to the Safer Internet Day Blogathon
Members of the Egyptian Youth Internet Safety Focus Group (Net-Aman) made their first contribution to the Safer Internet Day Blogathon on 12th Feb, 2008. |
Five blogs entries were made discussing the impact of ICT tools on the life of youth, e-safety tips and their need, and the protection of children online. Topics covered cyber life, the Internet Safety Focus Group, the State Agency for Child Protection, and empowering youth. The Participation of Net-Aman in the Blogathon has a unique significance; as it immediately follows the initial training session of the Group (4-5 Feb, 2008).
The Net-Aman Group was formed under The Cyber Peace Initiative, which is a program launched by the Suzanne Mubarak Women’s international Peace Movement, in cooperation with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Egypt, and the partnership of the International Telecommunication Union, the Global Alliance for ICT and Development, Microsoft, Cisco and Intel.
Its mission is to empower youth of any nation, through ICT, to become catalysts of change: to create safe and better futures for themselves and others and to disseminate the culture of peace.
The Cyber Peace Initiative consists of 7 tracks, one of which (track 7) is dedicated to the issue of e-safety: "Proposal for the formation of a Youth Internet Safety Focus Group". Such a track addresses the issue of Internet Safety through the creation of a Youth Focus Group.
