NCTE: Internet safety the Irish way

'Watch Your Space' launched

The Minister for Education & Science, Mary Hanafin TD, has launched WATCH YOUR SPACE - a new campaign to raise awareness and promote safe, responsible practice by young people when online. The key messages of the campaign, which is part of the NCTE's Webwise Internet Safety initiative, are:

  • be creative
  • be yourself
  • but be in control

Safer Internet Day 2007

More than 140 organisations in 43 countries around the world took part in a global Blogathon to celebrate Safer Internet Day 2007 on Tuesday 6th February. For the fourth annual celebrations of this event, schools in Ireland have been working with partner schools in Portugal, Estonia, and Denmark as part of a competition that combines the educational use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) with raising awareness of the risks of using the internet and mobile phones.

De La Salle College, Dundalk, Scoil na mBuachaillí, Clonakilty, and Bayside Junior School, Sutton are amongst those who posted their projects on the Safer Internet Blogathon as part of the competition.

Video Survey

Webwise has developed a short video that will give you an insight into what teenagers are doing online, what they think the risks are, and what advice they share with each other about getting the most out of the new online interactive service.
