Slovenia organises round table to celebrate Safer Internet Day

On 7 February, Slovenian Awareness Node SAFE-SI organised a successful and well-attended round table entitled "Education and ethics of young people on the internet."

Participants at the round table were both experts from the field of the Internet safety and media literacy and teachers, who discussed this interesting topic focusing on the phenomena of the media literacy and behavior of youngsters using Internet.

Key points of the discussion included how to bring up media literate and responsible young people, who will have the knowledge and critical skills to use the internet safely.  The respective role of schools, state institutions, awareness nodes and individuals in this process was also in the spotlight.

Participants have above all stressed the need to raise awareness of parents about the internet in general and specifically regarding safety issues.  Some parents have the  illusion that their children are "safe" at home on the computer, but they are not aware of hidden dangers of the internet.
