Wide participation on Safer Internet Day in Finland8 February 2006
Safer Internet Day is known as "Information Security Day" in Finland. The event reached out to small and medium size companies, as well as teachers and pupils. |
The event websites, Tietoturvaopas.fi and Tietoturvakoulou.fi, were updated with new features, including a new section concentrating on facilitating information security for small and medium size companies.
Material for schoolchildren now includes two new interactive stories concentrating on critical assessment of sources, technical skills, intellectual property, publishing content and meeting people online. And there is still a "godparent" bank where you can request for an expert to come and visit the class.
Following a seminar in Helsinki, Mannerheim League for Child Welfare, Save the Children Finland, the Finnish Parents' Association and the National Board of Education together with various companies from the IT sector presented a meeting point where people could come to exchange views on safer internet issues.
During the event schoolchildren also participated in the European wide blogathon. The Finnish blogathon entry was based on a common press release by Mannerheim League for Child Welfare, Save the Children Finland and the Finnish Parents' Association which challenged all internet producers to take account of children using the web.
