Austria "helps Rookie" on Safer Internet Day

Many enthusiastic kids and parents joined the exciting internet rally in Austria’s largest museum area on 7 February 2006.

Saferinternet.at organised four interactive stations where children could experience how to be safe on the internet:

1. Help Rookie with her new computer! What does Rookie need to make her computer safe and Schurki has no chance to take over the PC?

2. No chance for Schurki! Help Rookie with safe chatting and learn about the safety tips from the stars of the teen band “Gimme 5”.

3. What recommendations do you have for kids on the internet? Publish your hottest tips on a blog and join the worldwide Blogathon.

4. Crack the winning code and pick up your prize!

Parents could raise their questions about computer, internet and mobile phones at information desks and in workshops offered by Saferinternet.at, the Internet Ombudsman, eJunior and Microsoft.

Gaming stations, internet safety comics and a "Gimme 5" concert completed a fun day with a lot of useful safety tips for kids and their parents.

The event at MuseumsQuartier Wien was supported by the Federal Ministry of Social Security, Generations and Consumer Protection, the Federal Ministry for Economics and Labour, Microsoft Austria, Telekom Austria, stars4kids.at, eJunior, Zoom children’s museum, Dschungel children’s theatre and wienXtra.

European Safer Internet Day was covered by the largest national newspapers, TV and radio stations.
