Training Parents
On the 3rd and 4th of December 2007, parents training was held at the premises of Agenzija Appogg here in Malta and in a school in Gozo to make parents aware about the hazards which children and adolescents could encounter while using the internet. |
This workshop was discussed during an advisory board meeting held in the previous months. This parents training was held with the collaboration of the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Information technology, Agenzija Appogg and the education division.
The turnout was very good. There were 80 parents registered for two sessions of 2 hours each, one in the morning and one in the evening. A pack containing useful information about internet awareness and leaflets were distributed to each parent attending the sessions.
An in-depth Powerpoint presentation was shown during the training with one of the team members giving some useful tips and examples from real life while also emphasizing the harmful content which their children can meet every day whilst using the internet . Apart from the presentations a team member presented popular internet sites such as MSN, Hi5, youtube and google to the parents.
Apart from giving internet safety tips to the parents the training’s aim was to give an insight into and knowledge on internet safety. Another aim was that the parents attending would disseminate the materials and knowledge to other parents in their respective schools during talks held on the subject. The feedback the participants gave during the training was also of great benefit for the whole group.
Another similar training will be given in the coming months so that more schools and parents are targeted.
