Cyber Centre campaign launch by Protegeles

10 December, 2004
Yesterday PROTEGELES launched a campaign with the Child Ombudsman aimed at involving Cyber Centres throughout the Spanish territory in the promotion of the safety of children who surf the Internet in these establishments.
In the CIBER CENTRO AMIGO DE LA INFANCIA campaign (something like Cyber Centre Friend of Childhood, but that sounds much better in Spanish), PROTEGELES and the Child Ombudsman will promote amongst parents and teachers associations the Cyber Centres that are affiliated to the campaign and who respect certain requirements, such as:
  • Providing within the centre a special separate area for the navigation of minors where the computers are equipped with efficient mechanisms to protect the navigation of children.
  • Providing the users of the centre with information regarding Internet safety. Pamphlets, stickers and posters have been furnished to the cyber centres by PROTEGELES and the Child Ombudsman. Face-to-face visits have been carried out by PROTEGELES and Child Ombudsman personnel in order to inform managers about the main issues around child safety.

These centres will be given a sort of “quality seal” by the Child Ombudsman. A study was also developed by PROTEGELES named “Cyber Centres and Child Safety on the Internet”. This study will be published by the Child Ombudsman.

If you want more information on the campaign you can visit the website
he press conference had important TV coverage and the news came out on the main national as well as regional news programs.
