 Insafe launched their first ever back to school campaign in September this year which proved to be very successful. The start of the school year is a good time to remind children and young people of some of the things they need to do when they are online in order to keep themselves safe. In what is hoped to be an annual campaign, Insafe offered a solution to schools by providing a lesson plan on eliteracy. Many online safety experts believe that children and young people who are media literate will be more likely to keep themselves safe online.
The lesson plan focused on how to enable children and young people to challenge what they find online, considering issues of validity and bias. The plan and accompanying resources (including a quiz) are available and will provide a number of activities that can be used in class.
A number of countries sent the resource directly to all schools. The campaign had a wide reach and received positive comments from those who used it. Insafe hopes to run the campaign again in September 2010.
