About our SID activities

In 2024, on Safer Internet Day (SID), we are focusing on various aspects of online violence targeting children and adolescents. Throughout February 2024, a combination of promotional and educational activities will be conducted to raise awareness about this crucial issue. The SID 2024 celebrations in Slovenia will receive support from national governmental institutions, including the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Digital Transformation.

In February 2024, we intend to publish a handbook on online violence tailored for teachers and other school professionals working with children. During the preparation of the handbook, experts from Safe.si collaborated with professionals from the Community Centres for Social Work, the Police, and the Inspectorate for Education of the Republic of Slovenia. The handbook aims to assist school personnel in addressing online violence that occurs among primary and secondary school pupils and students—a challenge they face almost daily. Upon its release, we will send a complimentary copy of the handbook to all schools, and subsequently, it will be available for free order.

Following the handbook's release, a conference for teachers and other school professionals working with children will be held on 14 February 2024. During the conference, individual speakers (co-authors of the handbook) will present their perspectives on the issue of online violence and offer advice to teachers on effectively addressing this form of violence. The Minister from the Ministry of Digital Transformation will be one of the keynote speakers, and we also anticipate the participation of the Minister of Education.

A campaign on digital screens in city buses in major Slovenian cities will target witnesses of online violence. The primary audience for this campaign is expected to be secondary school students aged 14 to 18.

We will continue our tradition and extend Safer Internet Day into Safer Internet Month. We are inviting schools in Slovenia to register and participate in the SID celebration. Upon registration, teachers and schools will receive a toolkit containing classroom activities and a badge to promote SID on their school website. The main focus will be on addressing online violence targeting children and adolescents.

We will also launch various Facebook/X/Instagram campaigns, encouraging our fans and followers to engage in discussions and share their views and opinions actively. We will also run a series of training sessions for parents and teachers and workshops for pupils and secondary school students.

What we are doing to promote a better internet

The Slovenian Safer Internet Centre (SIC) makes great efforts to reach as many schools from different Slovenian regions and include them in as many different activities as possible. We organise face-to-face workshops and seminars for pupils, students, and their parents. We regularly organise competitions for schools, and all schools receive an invitation to join the competition.

The Slovenian Safer Internet Centre encourages schools to prepare their activities for Safer Internet Day (SID) every year. To encourage participation effectively, we prepare a SID Toolkit each year, which includes lesson plans with activities for different age groups, decision trees, leaflets, videos and other interesting tools that can be used in the classroom. We also create a map of schools involved in SID to show that all regions of the country are covered.
