About our SID activities

Portuguese SID Summit 2024

This year's celebration will occur over three days, 6, 7 and 8 February.

To reflect on the risks and benefits of artificial intelligence, this year's Safer Internet Day is centred around the topic of artificial intelligence (AI). The main event on 6 February in the Aula Magna of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu is a forum entitled "Zoom into AI: Exploring Invisible Dimensions", which will also be available via streaming.

During the morning, the forum will open with keynote speaker from Microsoft on "Myths, advantages and disadvantages of AI", followed by the first panel discussion "AI in education and pedagogical practise" and the second panel discussion "AI in image manipulation as a form of violence".
The morning will conclude with presenting new resources to raise awareness, namely the digital colouring book ZigZaga on the Internet, aimed at preschool children, and a campaign for parents and educators.

In the afternoon, there will be a panel discussion with young people on the topic "Young people's biggest concerns about AI". This panel discussion, composed of young people and intended for young people, aims to reflect among their peers on their main concerns about AI.

At the closing session, the cooperation agreement between the CNCS and the Rede de Universidades da Terceira Idade (RUTIS) association is signed to promote training, research and the development of educational/information and active actions to empower citizens, especially those over 50, in cybersecurity and the safe use of the internet.

To close the event, there will be the performance of the theatre play “ID a tua marca na net”, played by well-known actors Pedro Górgia, Alexandre da Silva and Tiago Aldeia.

This forum will be attended by institutional representatives such as Mário Campolargo - Secretary of State for Digitisation and Administrative Modernisation, and Lino Santos - Coordinator of the National Cybersecurity Centre.

On 7 February, the "Safer Internet Workshops" will be held in Viseu at the IPDJ Viseu premises. The aim is to raise awareness among the population to a healthier, safer and more conscious use of the Internet, such as Digital academies for parents, Educational robotics and computational thinking; From AI to hate: digital issues and challenges; Virtually safe: how to surf the Internet risk-free and preventively; Tech voices: young people in action for digital wellbeing; Cybersecurity in an arcade game!; Preventing problematic Internet use: the role of storytelling; Anatomy of an attack: good cybersecurity practices. These workshops are aimed at students from middle to high school, including vocational students, older adults and others.

On 8 October, as part of the launch of the colouring book - ZigZaga na NET, aimed at preschool children, four of them in the Viseu region will be visited to kick off the physical book. This event will continue later in the year with a roadshow throughout the country to bring this course to many pre-school schools.

What we are doing to create a better internet…

SID actions emphasise the importance of tackling new online technologies, raising awareness of their potential and impact on different actors which are involved in it: children, youngsters, parents, and teachers.

Through close collaboration with the PT SIC Advisory Board, and other national stakeholders that have been supporting SIC activities throughout the years, PT SIC will ensure online promotion and dissemination of SID social media campaign through its network of national partners.
We are joining efforts to ensure that everyone has a say regarding how to promote a positive, conscientious, and respectful online ecosystem, knowing that together we can achieve a better internet.

About us

CNCS is the operational coordinator and the Portuguese national authority specialised in cybersecurity, working in this field with State Entities, Operators of Critical Infrastructures, Operators of Essential Services and Digital Service Providers, ensuring that the cyberspace is used as a space of freedom, security and justice, for the protection of all sectors of society that materialise national sovereignty and the Democratic State under the rule of law.

The PT SIC consortium organisations are: DGE – Direção-Geral da Educação; IPDJ – Instituto Português do Desporto e Juventude; FCT - Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia; APAV - Associação Portuguesa de Apoio à Vítima; Fundação Altice and Microsoft Portugal.

PT SIC has two Awareness Centres, one for the general public, coordinated by CNCS that aims to implement awareness sessions and campaigns, promote project results and ensure that all services are well known by decision makers, relevant stakeholders and the public.
