Italian Safer Internet Centre - Generazioni Connesse

Last updated: 2024-01-25

About our SID activities

This year, the Safer Internet Centre proposes a hybrid edition of Safer Internet Day. It involves organising a live event, followed by the schools also streaming, the organisation of the communication campaign with the release of the "We are fearless" web series videos and the possibility for all the schools in the area to interact and promote their events through the Generazioni Connesse website.

The event will take place at the 'Ambra Jovinelli' theatre in Rome, from 10:00 to 12:30, in the presence of over 500 students already identified within the educational institutions involved in the project. The meeting will be live-streamed to give all school institutions nationwide the opportunity to participate in the event remotely.
The aim of Safer Internet Day 2024 will be, as always, to reflect on the risks and opportunities of the Net with the protagonists of the school community themselves, students, teachers together with public and private stakeholders; the ultimate goal is, as always, to realise the objectives and actions of the European strategy for the digital decade "Better Internet for Kids".

SID 2024 themes and programme

Every year, Safer Internet Day aims to raise awareness of everyone's responsibility to make the Internet a positive tool for everyone. The main theme of the current edition will be Artificial Intelligence analysed from its applications and implications, in terms of opportunities and risks, within the following five areas:

  1.  Grooming, Privacy and Image Rights
  2. Metaverse
  3. BES and Applied Technologies
  4. Artificial Intelligence and Trades of the Future
  5. Gaming

The involvement of the Youth Panel, the Safer Internet Centre's Youth Advisory Group and the presence of authoritative guests opens up and deepens the discussion on the issues. Please visit the Ministry's home page and the channel to follow the institutional event and discover the SID 2024 programme.

The five topics discussed during the SID event (Grooming, Privacy and Image Rights; Metaverse; BES and Applied Technologies; Artificial Intelligence and Trades of the Future; Gaming) will be covered and re-launched through the social channels of Generazioni Connesse and the Consortium members with the launch of video 5 of the Web Series "We are fearless" during the entire month of online safety. The communication campaign foresees the launch of one video per week with a thematic, in-depth analysis of the specific content of the video for each target audience.

In addition, also this year, the Safer Internet Centre, in conjunction with the SID, will launch the related information campaign "Internet Safety Month". Within the same SID 2024 section, it will be possible to enter, using a special form, the relevant activities organised by educational institutions, starting on 6 February and ending on 29 February 2024.

The Generazioni Connesse’s website will have a specific section aimed at the SID 2024, where the events organised by the members of the Advisory Board and the schools throughout the country will be featured.

What we are doing to create a better internet...

The project represents the result of several lessons learned from the past, including the option to coordinate with a strong public institutional effort. The objective of the project is to improve the use of the Internet and other digital technologies by children and young people in their personal and social lives as well as in their studies and future work. This is attained by increasing their digital competencies and improving the conditions for a more child-friendly online environment.

About us

The Safer Internet Centre - Generazioni Connesse represents the gateway for the general public to find information on issues related to children's and young people’s use of online technologies and services, at the national and European levels. It connects to the Better Internet for Kids platforms established at the European level. Moreover, the Italian SIC works continuously with other SICs, universities and institutions around Europe sharing best practices and taking part in research, surveys and shaping a human-centric, sustainable vision for a digital society. The Italian Safer Internet Centre can be considered the result of a long process; most of the experience began in 2012 with the establishment of the SIC. Following, it strengthens its focal role even more while making the SIC the unique point of reference nationally and universally recognized for all aspects regarding safety internet matters.
