About our SID activities

This year, the Safer Internet Day (SID) campaign in Estonia focuses on digital wellbeing and how to use the internet and digital technology safely, smartly and in a more balanced way.

As in recent years, we are inviting schools and kindergartens, youth centres and libraries to organise thematic events for children in this year's Safer Internet Day campaign.  All mentioned institutions receive a package of thematic educational material available on the Estonian Safer Internet Centre website. The package contains information about new thematic materials, for example, new lesson plans, games, online tests,  and so on, to give ideas on how to celebrate Safer Internet Day with children and young people.

On 6 February 2024, a thematic conference, “Smartly on the Web: digital wellbeing and mental health”, will be organised by the Estonian Safer Internet Centre together with Telia Estonia for teachers and other professionals working with children as well as for parents. In the framework of the conference, eight workshops will be carried out; three keynote speakers will give presentations about the latest PISA results, students' digital technology use and mental well-being, and how to take these findings into account in the education field; it will be followed by the panel discussion. More information about the conference (in Estonian)

Also, the cybersecurity online testing event KüberNööpnõel (CyberPin) is being organised for 1-6 grade students, and 7-12 grade students are being invited to create escape rooms.

On Safer Internet Day, the Estonian Union for Child Welfare publishes thematic articles on various media channels and the Smartly on the Web website.

What we are doing to create a better internet…

Together with our partners, we are carrying out activities to raise awareness about how to use the internet and digital technology safely, smartly and in a more balanced way, how to avoid risks, receive help and build healthy digital habits, especially among children and young people.

About us

The Estonian Safer Internet Centre (SIC) aim is to promote the positive and safe use of the internet and digital communication devices and technologies among children and young people.
The Estonian SIC is a consortium of four organisations: the Estonian Union for Child Welfare, Education and Youth Agency, Tallinn University of Technology, and the Estonian Social Insurance Board. The Estonian Union for Child Welfare acts as coordinator to ensure swift cooperation between the consortium members.
The Estonian Safer Internet Centre cooperates with children and young people via the project youth panel and different events in schools, kindergartens and youth centres.
The Estonian SIC consortium also cooperates with various stakeholders, including governmental, public and private agencies.
