Since 2010, as the new school year begins, Insafe releases its Back2School gift. A countdown to the 2012 campaign began on 3 September, with one new gift released each day that week. The full kit of resources was be made available on the following Monday 10 September, and included new information on Safer Internet Day 2013.

Following on previous successes, the network worked hard over the summer in order to launch the 2012 campaign at the beginning of the new school year.

Traditionally, the campaign consists of a gift of resources and tools for teachers to use throughout the school year, and is released on 8 September to mark the United Nations International Literacy Day. However, 8 September fell on a Saturday on 2012, Insafe planned something a little bit different.

A countdown to the 2012 campaign began on 3 September, and a new gift was released each day that week. The gifts have included a game, a poster and lesson plans. The full kit of resources was made available on 10 September.
